Microsoft has announced the end of support for Windows 10 Team Edition: From October 14, 2025, no more security updates, bug fixes or technical support will be provided for Surface Hub devices with this operating system.
This affects in particular
- Surface Hub 1st generation
- Surface Hub 2S, if still operated with Windows 10 Team Edition
The Microsoft Teams app will also no longer be functional on the affected devices after this date.
What does that mean in concrete terms?
Surface Hub 1st generation:
It is not possible to upgrade to a new operating system. Microsoft recommends a hardware update. The devices can then only be used as pure screens.
Surface Hub 2S:
Several options are available here:
- Upgrade to Surface Hub 3 using the Surface Hub 3 Pack Cartridge (pre-installed with Microsoft Teams Rooms under Windows 11).
- Migration to Teams Rooms on Windows through the current migration offer from Microsoft (free of charge until October 14, 2025).
- Switch to Windows 11 Pro / Enterprise for use as a conventional Windows PC - recommended for single workstations only.
Important notes
When switching to Microsoft Teams Rooms (either by upgrading or migrating), some functions are no longer available:
- No more access to Office applications directly on the device
- No connection to OneDrive
- No Miracast support
Microsoft plans to make Miracast available again towards the end of 2025 - whether this will also affect migrated devices is still unclear.
Recommendation
The current status of the Surface Hub devices used should be checked promptly. This is the only way to ensure uninterrupted operation. Timely planning of the next steps is strongly recommended.
