Concert and theater St. Gallen

The Konzert und Theater St. Gallen (formerly Stadttheater St. Gallen) is the oldest professional theater in Switzerland and the only four-genre theater with music theater, drama, dance and concerts in the Eastern Switzerland/Lake Constance region. Around 254 people from 33 nations work here in 94 different professions.

Initial situation/requirements:

As part of the three-year renovation and expansion of the St. Gallen Theater, Kilchenmann was commissioned with the complete implementation of the audiovisual area.

Technical implementation:

A central aspect of the conversion was the installation of three audio systems in the hall.

The main loudspeaker system, placed directly above the stage, was developed to ensure that speech and instruments can be optimally heard by the audience, actors and musicians during performances.

For the room acoustics system, 48 loudspeakers and 35 microphones were distributed throughout the auditorium. This now makes it possible to model the acoustics of the room at the touch of a button, giving the audience the acoustic feeling of being either in an imposing cathedral or right on the seashore.

The evacuation system ensures that messages are audible in the building in the event of an emergency and therefore serves as an important safety component for emergencies throughout the building.

In addition, seven cameras were installed to record the stage and the conductor. These images can be played back via an IPTV system in the artists' dressing rooms, backstage and on stage. This allows actors and musicians to follow exactly which scene is being performed on the monitors. Thanks to permanently installed cameras, it is also possible to create live recordings of a performance at any time.

Three projectors were installed, which can be used in the design of the stage set (permanently installed, or partly mobile on the stage).

For the visitor information guidance system, 19 displays have been installed at strategic locations (entrance area, foyer, hall entrances). This enables very effective guidance of people in the public area of the theater. The Magic Info software was used specifically to present relevant information clearly and attractively. A projection in the foyer and three outdoor steles in front of the theater round off this digital signage concept.
