UEFA Women's EURO 2025, Bernese ball magic stage from the front

Four weeks of football fever, music and emotion in the heart of Bern - Kilchenmann realized the event technology behind the Berner Ballzauber, the public viewing and supporting program for the UEFA Women's Euro 2025, and relied on StateOfTheArt technology, flexible implementation and strong partnerships.

Initial situation / requirements:

As Kilchenmann AG, we were faced with a special premiere in spring 2025: for the first time, we were commissioned by Host City Bern to realize the technical implementation of Bern's ball magic for the UEFA Women's Euro.
We were awarded the contract for the stage and LED wall in April - with a planning time that was tight and demanded maximum flexibility.

At the same time, the supporting program grew almost daily: new bands, additional show acts and spontaneous ideas had to be integrated and technically implemented. There was also a growing desire for as much content as possible on the LED wall.
Our goal was clear: to reconcile all customer wishes and the different requirements while delivering the highest quality.

Project manager Samuel Berger remembers three highlights in particular: the concert by the successful Swiss band Hecht, the reception for the Swiss women's national team on the Bundesplatz and the performance by Jule X, who rapped a song live from the Ferris wheel.

Technical implementation:

In the center of the Bundesplatz was a Nüssli stage with a playing area of 10x5m, side wings for the technology and a height of 1.6m. A ramp facilitated the transportation of roll cases and technical equipment, while flexible platforms - so-called roll risers - were available for quick stage conversions. At eight by four meters, the working deck offered rather limited space for preparing the equipment of the announced bands behind the curtain.

For the sound, Kilchenmann relied on a powerful, tried-and-tested audio system from d&b Audiotechnik, which enabled both sound reinforcement of the public viewing from the direction of the screen and concert sound reinforcement of the music acts on stage.

The impressive 16 x 9 m LED wall, mounted on a 4 m high layered scaffolding, not only broadcast the games, but also live images of concerts and the action on stage. Several cameras - distributed at the FOH, in the stage pit and in the set - ensured that every emotion was captured. The lighting design combined the latest intelligent spotlights, which were bright enough even in daylight to optimally stage the performing bands - often with their own lighting technician. J Everything was possible, from soft moods and TV-compatible white light to energy-laden light shows in the audience area.

The screen signal produced in collaboration with Newsroom Communication was also streamed to Waisenhausplatz. Kilchenmann was also involved there, providing the entire technical infrastructure for sound, lighting and video. The logistics posed a particular challenge: every Tuesday and Saturday, some of the technology for the traditional Berner Märit had to be dismantled and reassembled at the end of the market - from FOH and cable bridges to subwoofers.

Conclusion:

After 27 days, Host City Bern can look back on a thoroughly positive year: over 511,000 visitors flocked to fan zones, concerts and public viewing. Fan walks with over 40,000 enthusiastic participants, 120,000 stadium visitors at sold-out matches and an emotional film show "UNSTOPPABLE" in the cube on Waisenhausplatz with around 12,000 admissions and 560 screenings impressively demonstrated the impact of the overall experience.

Football, music and community merged into a summer of joyful emotions and the Berner Ballzauber 2025 will remain a positive memory for everyone involved for a long time to come.

A big thank you goes to our partners: Newsroom for directing the event, RöckNRöll Krew for setting up, dismantling and rebuilding, and Swift Productions for directing the cameras - and of course the City of Bern as the client.
