NZZ Connect, Open-i

At the NZZ Connect Open-i event at the Kongresshaus Zurich, Kilchenmann provided additional AV technology, live broadcasts, presentation control rooms and an intercom system to ensure that everything ran smoothly on two stages - including zoom switching and professional signal control. The technically demanding event was thus made a seamless and hybrid experience.

The NZZ Connect series of events is regarded as an important platform for dialog in Switzerland. With events on current topics from business, science and politics, it creates space for well-founded exchange and new perspectives. As a further development of the well-known Swiss Innovation Forum (SIF), a new, forward-looking event brand was launched with Open-i. On November 21 and 22, 2024, over 1,000 participants and more than 70 top-class speakers gathered at the Kongresshaus Zurich for an event that set new trends.

Initial situation/requirements:

Kilchenmann has been a reliable technical partner for NZZ Connect formats for many years. As the Kongresshaus Zurich has modern basic technical equipment, the main task was to supplement and adapt this in a targeted manner. The aim was to ensure that everything ran smoothly over two days - with a focus on highly professional presentation technology, live transmission and hybrid integration.

Technical implementation:

On the Garden Stage, one of the central event areas, Kilchenmann installed a digital audio mixing console for clear speech intelligibility and finely tuned sound. The speakers worked with headset and wireless microphones, supported by in-ear monitoring. Three controlled PTZ cameras provided high-quality live images, which were also transmitted to the Circle Stage. The video transmission and camera work was controlled from a separate control room.

An additional PowerPoint and video control room was set up for presentations and video recordings in order to guarantee a high degree of flexibility and reliability. An LED wall provided by the Kongresshaus ensured a visual presence.

The Circle Stage was also comprehensively equipped technically: In addition to its own presentation control room, a presentation timer, background slides and an additional camera were used for live transmissions between the stages. The already installed softedge projection was used for large-scale and seamless presentations.

Kilchenmann installed a professional intercom system to coordinate all the technical teams, which enabled fast, trouble-free communication between the control rooms - a crucial factor in such an extensive live operation. External speakers were also integrated into the stage programs via a Zoom live link, including sound and image transmission.
