Modern media technology meets practical learning: In the simulation rooms at the Freiburg University of Applied Sciences for Health (HEdS-FR), students can train realistic scenarios and carry out scientific analyses at the same time - Intuitive, effective and future-oriented.

The Fribourg School of Health (HEdS-FR) is part of the University of Applied Sciences Western Switzerland (HES-SO) and offers degree courses in nursing and osteopathy in French and bilingual form. Around 700 students prepare for their professional future here. In addition to teaching, the university is also active in applied research and continuing education and contributes its expertise to numerous medical fields.

Initial situation/requirements

In order to meet the high demands of training, the existing media technology had to be partially replaced. The aim was to simplify operation, create new interfaces and expand functionality so that students can learn in a practical way using future-proof tools.

Technical implementation

As part of the lifecycle update, one of the six simulation rooms and parts of the control room were extensively modernized. New monitors and special display mounts were installed to meet the spatial and functional requirements. The signal routing was completely rebuilt using modern DSP technology and a central control system.

Systems are now available for recording and streaming that enable both saving and live transmission. A stream deck makes it easier to mark relevant sequences. Lecturers and students can operate the technology intuitively via a central touch panel without having to make complex settings. Telephony and audio recording are seamlessly integrated.

An eye-tracking system makes it possible to record students' gaze patterns during simulations. The microphones have also been replaced - In addition to headsets, room microphones froom microphones for improved audio quality. Simulation, directing and debriefing sare realized as arealized as a coherent unit.

Conclusion

The Freiburg School of Health has state-of-the-art simulation rooms that enable practical learning at the highest level. Students benefit from intuitive technology that depicts realistic training situations and supports scientific analysis.

A service level agreement (SLA) also ensures that not only the simulation rooms, but also all classrooms with media technology are operated smoothly and supported quickly at all times. This means that the university continues to be ideally equipped for the future and relies on state-of-the-art media technology for teaching and practice.
