Schauspielhaus Zurich Schiffbau entrance LED display system

The Schauspielhaus Zürich is the largest spoken theater stage in Switzerland and one of the most renowned theaters in the German-speaking world.

With the traditional Pfauen in Zurich-Hottingen and the Schiffbau in Zurich-West, which opened in 2000, it now has two large venues in two parts of the city.

At the Schiffbau, in the Escher-Wyss area, Kilchenmann was able to install an outdoor LED wall at the entrance to the foyer. This replaces the classic banners announcing events and exhibitions.

Consisting of 272 LED strips, this results in a total size of 6m wide and 3.40m high with a pixel pitch of 25mm. The total resolution of the wall is 240x136 pixels. The LED strips have been installed in front of the glazing on the outside of the doors. The wall is slightly transparent. Mounting rails were produced for the installation and mounted on the door. Each individual strip was then mounted on the brackets.

The LED wall consists of two parts so that the gate in the middle can still be opened. This content is also displayed when the gate is open. All the electronics are mounted on the inside of the gate edge in two metal housings. The image signal is played from a digital signage player in native resolution.

The LED wall runs according to a preset operating time and the brightness is adjusted to the current sunlight using a light sensor so that the image always appears the same "bright".
