ASTRA Visitor Center Wankdorf - Experience infrastructure

Written by auviso | Nov 25, 2025 1:46:24 PM

The new visitor center of the Federal Roads Office (FEDRO) in Bern's Wankdorf district focuses on one central concern: informing the public about current and planned major projects in the region - in a transparent, understandable and effective way.

The idea behind the center was not just to provide information, but to actively involve visitors. They should be able to understand how infrastructure is created, what challenges are involved and what contribution these developments will make to the mobility of the future.

Technology as a mediator between content and experience

Together with MEDIAVILLE, the partner responsible for the content and exhibition concept, we at auviso were able to take on the overall technical implementation from planning to commissioning.

The focus was on developing a media system that can be used flexibly, is technically reliable and creates an immersive visitor experience. The three themed rooms are designed to take visitors on a guided journey. The content is deliberately modular and can be updated or expanded on an ongoing basis.

Highlights of the technical implementation:

- 270° projection in room 3: Three 8 x 4 meter screens form a panoramic projection with a total resolution of 12,240 × 2,160 pixels. The system is equipped with three native 4K HDR projectors from Barco. Among other things, an interactive, large-format map of Switzerland is shown, which can be used to explore current projects using multimedia.

- Immersive audio solution: A CODA audio system was used to create a finely tuned sound environment that perfectly complements the visual effect.

- LED wall: A five-meter-wide, curved Unilumin LED wall (90°) visually expands the space and enables content to be conveyed intensively.

- Central control & media server: With the VERTEX media server, a high-performance, future-proof solution was implemented that guarantees precise synchronization of all content as well as simple operation.

Particularly in the context of a federal project, it was important not only to be technically convincing, but also to work efficiently and save resources. The selected components stand for longevity, ease of maintenance and operational reliability.
